Aesthetic tooth
filling

Aesthetic filling is a procedure in which, after selecting the most suitable composite shade, the tooth defect is very carefully restored to its original correct anatomy.

Differs from a regular filling in that particular attention is paid to correctly restoring tooth anatomy and matching the colour.

Aesthetic filling is most often performed when:

During the aesthetic filling procedure, the tooth is minimally invasively roughened without drilling and covered with composite material, giving it a proportionate shape and the desired colour. After just one visit, patients can already enjoy a new, beautiful and functional smile.

At our clinic, aesthetic filling is performed by Gintarė Žmuidinavičienė — a professional in her field with 10 years of experience and a 2022 finalist in the „Dental Professionals“ aesthetic filling competition. Only the highest-quality leading materials on the dental market and magnifying loupes are used for aesthetic filling. All of this ensures a maximally strong final result with impeccable aesthetics.

Procedure steps

A consultation is required first, to discuss the patient’s expectations, the future colour and shape, and to evaluate the bite.

On the day of the aesthetic filling, the following is performed:

  1. Anaesthesia to ensure no discomfort.
  2. The tooth enamel is roughened with sandblasting or a special polisher.
  3. A protective rubber dam is placed.
  4. The composite material is layered, with each layer cured under a lamp.
  5. Once layering is complete, the fillings are polished with special burs and polishers.
  6. During longer visits a short break is taken, but the rubber dam usually stays in place, so eating and drinking during the break is not possible.

Preparation for the aesthetic filling procedure:

  1. An X-ray (preferably a panoramic one) and a consultation.
  2. Professional oral hygiene.
  3. Tooth whitening if needed. After whitening, at least 10 days must pass before filling can be performed.
  4. Arrive at the aesthetic filling procedure after eating and with brushed teeth and interdental spaces.

F. A. Q.

How many visits are needed for aesthetic filling of the front teeth?

In most cases, one visit is enough, but in more difficult cases a second one is needed.

How long does aesthetic filling take?

Depending on the situation, the procedure may take from 30 minutes (e.g. if only tooth edges are restored) up to 1.5 hours per tooth.

Can I eat right after aesthetic tooth filling?

Yes, you can eat straight away, but for the next 24 hours it is recommended to avoid staining foods.

How should teeth be cared for after aesthetic filling?

  • Avoid whitening toothpastes — choose low-abrasivity ones instead (RDA< 50). Abrasive materials damage the filling surface: gloss is lost and pigment and dark spots appear.
  • Wear a protective night guard if one was recommended.
  • Have professional oral hygiene at least twice a year.
  • Have a polishing/gloss refreshment at least once a year. Aesthetic polishing is usually carried out during the oral hygiene procedure — inform the dental hygienist in advance that aesthetic filling has been done.

How much does aesthetic tooth filling cost?

The exact price is determined during the consultation, taking into account the complexity of the case and the amount of materials used. On average, the cost is €150–300.
